Box Score Bloomington, Ill. - Tenth-ranked DePauw trailed by as many as 10 points in the third quarter but rallied for a 66-64 win over WashU in the Midwest Challenge. The Tigers will face Rose-Hulman in Sunday's 3 p.m. CST title game after the Fightin' Engineers topped Illinois Wesleyan, 69-64, in overtime.
DePauw trailed throughout the first three quarters with the largest deficit of 10 points occurring twice in the third. The Tigers put together a 13-4 run late in the third which included three 3-pointers from Ava Hassel to cut the Bears' lead to 44-43.
WashU closed the third with a bucket and extended the lead back to five at 48-43 in the opening minute of the fourth. The Tigers still trailed by four at 54-50 before Mya Shannon hit one of two free throws prior to converting a three-point play to even the score at 54-54 with 5:18 left.
DePauw gained its first lead of the contest at 57-56 as Maeve Summerville hit one of two free throws with 2:58 left. The lead went back-and-forth until Hassel's layup with 25 seconds left gave DePauw a 63-62 advantage. After the Bears failed to convert their next possession, Grace Kinsey hit one free throw to push the lead to 64-62 with 15 seconds remaining. Following a WashU turnover, Hassel knocked in a free throw with eight seconds to extend the lead to three. WashU countered with a bucket and Shannon sealed the win with a free throw.
Hassel netted a career-high 17 points and Shannon followed with 11 and Summerville grabbed seven rebounds. Sammi Matoush scored 16 for the Bears with Karisa Grandison adding 13 and Maya Arnott following with 12 point and 12 rebounds.
DePauw shot 31.8 percent from the field to WashU's 35.1 percent and the Bears outrebounded DePauw, 48-36. The Tigers committed just 13 turnovers to the Bears' 20.
