Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw's Mya Shannon posted career highs of 31 points and 11 rebounds to lead the 19th-ranked Tigers to a 71-66 win over 22nd-ranked Millikin in the Tigers' home opener. The Tigers improved to 3-0, while the Big Blue dropped to 3-1.
The Tigers closed the first quarter on an 8-2 run to take a 14-9 lead at the quarter break. Shannon hit a 3-pointer to start the second to expand the lead to eight, but the Big Blue scored the next nine to grab an 18-17 advantage. The lead then went back-and-forth for much of the quarter until DePauw scored the final five to take a 30-26 lead into the half.
DePauw's lead was four at 39-35 in the opening two minutes of the third before the Tigers put together a 10-2 stretch to push the lead to double digits, 49-37, for the first time in the game. Millikin scored the next six to trim the lead in half and trailed, 53-47, as the teams headed to the final stanza.
The margin was still seven at 57-50 with 7:35 remaining, but Shannon scored DePauw's next eight points to extend the lead to 12. Millikin briefly closed the gap to 10, but DePauw finished the game on a 6-0 run.
Joining Shannon in double figures was Maeve Summerville with 13 points. Grace Kinsey led the Tigers with five assists.
Elyce Knudsen paced Millikin with 17 points with Abby Ratsch adding 12 and six rebounds.
DePauw shot 45.5 percent from the field for the game including 57 percent in the second half. Millikin hit 35.2 percent from the floor with DePauw holding a 43-24 rebounding edge.
The Tigers host Kenyon on Sunday, November 21, in a 4 p.m. North Coast Athletic Conference game.
