Box Score Wilmington, Ohio - The 19th-ranked DePauw women's basketball team moved to 2-0 on the season following a 58-55 win over Calvin at Wilmington College's Fred Raizk Memorial Classic. The Knights dropped to 2-2 with the loss.
Calvin jumped out to a 5-0 start and held a 17-14 edge after the opening quarter. The Knights expanded the lead back to five at 21-16 before the Tigers went on a 13-0 run to grab a 29-21 advantage with 1:39 left in the half. Calvin hit a three in the closing minute as the teams went to the intermission with DePauw leading, 29-24.
DePauw extended its lead back to nine in the first three minutes of the third before the Knights chipped away and closed to within two at 37-35 with four minutes left in the third. Maddie Howe, Lydia Stullken and Mya Shannon each hit buckets as DePauw headed to the fourth with a 43-35 advantage.
Moira McGinley's basket in the opening minute of the fourth pushed the DePauw lead to double digits at 45-35. The Tigers went scoreless over their next four possessions and Calvin cut the lead to 45-41 with 6:40 remaining.
Campbell Montgomery ended the run with a bucket before Stullken hit one of two free throws. Calvin evened the count at 50-50 and the teams traded 3-pointers before Mya Shannon knocked in a pair of free throws to give the Tigers a 55-53 lead with 1:12 left.
Gabby Timmer knotted the score at 55-55 with a second-chance layup, but Maeve Summerville's bucket with 16 seconds left put the Tigers in front for good. The Knights missed on their next possession before Stullken hit a free throw to make it 58-55. A Calvin 3-point attempt near the buzzer was off the mark.
Summerville led the Tigers with 14 points and Shannon, who was named to the all-Classic Team, added 13. Four Tigers grabbed five rebounds each, while Maura Fitzgerald had four assists and four steals and Grace Kinsey chipped in four assists.
Timmer paced Calvin with 23 points and 11 rebounds with Stephanie Coors adding 12 points.
DePauw hosts Millikin on Tuesday, November 16, in a 7 p.m. contest.
