Box Score Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw outscored visiting Earlham, 9-0, over the final 4:50 to break a 58-58 tie and take a 67-58 win over the Quakers in Neal Fieldhouse. The Tigers moved to 1-1 with the win, while Earlham dropped to 0-2.
DePauw led by as many as five in the first half before Earlham put together a run late in the half to lead by as many as 10 on the way to a 35-28 advantage at the intermission.
The Quakers briefly led by nine early in the second half, but a 9-2 DePauw run cut the deficit to two. The Tigers took a 50-45 lead with 12 minutes to play, but Earlham chipped away and led, 55-54 with 7:19 remaining. After the hosts had pushed the margin to three, Kolden Vanlandingham knocked in a 3-pointer with 4:53 remaining, but those were the Quakers' last points as Elijah Hales' 3-point play with 2:49 left gave DePauw the lead for good. Hales nailed two more charity tosses before Nolan Niego hit four in the final 16 seconds to seal the win. DePauw held Earlham to 0-7 shooting in the final four-plus minutes.
Cooper Mixon paced DePauw with 16 points followed by Nolan Niego with a career-high 15, Grant Gohmann with 12 and Hales with 11. Hales matched a career-high with nine rebounds as the Tigers held a 42-25 advantage on the boards.
Jordan Goodson was Earlham's lone double-figure scorer with 15.
The Tigers shot 42.1 percent from the floor, but 50 percent in the second half, while Earlham hit 40 percent from the floor.
DePauw returns to action on Tuesday, November 16, when it travels to Division I Evansville for a 6 p.m. CST contest.
