Box Score Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw University men's basketball team win comfortably in its 94-67 victory over Hiram College.
FiveTigers finished the game in double-digits, after shooting 60% from both the field and behind the arc.
From the start, DePauw exerted its dominance in and around the three-point line. Going 7-for-11 in the first six minutes, clinching a double-digit lead with just under 14 minutes left in the first half.
In the first half alone, five different Tigers drained three's. Alternating between set plays and transition spot-up shots, DePauw whipped the ball around its half to find the open man.
At the half Aaron Shank was 7-7 from the field, helping him match his career-high 16 points to lead the team, close behind Elijah Hales put in 14 of his own after going 4-7 from the arc.
Leading the bench scoring throughout the first half was Ken Decker, who put up three consecutive three-pointers as soon as he stepped onto the floor.
The Tigers' control of the game wasn't just on the offensive end but was evident in its defensive stops, forcing ten turnovers and out-converting the Terriers 20-6 by the end of the half. DePauw's two-way efforts allowed the lead to swell to as much as 34 points with under three minutes to play.
Up by 27 at the half, the Tigers did not let up offensively, putting up 16 points in the first six minutes of the half.
Despite its shooting dominance, the Hiram outscored DePauw 24-14 in the paint, with the Terriers' Oliver Clingain pulling in four of his six defensive rebounds in the second half.
Though the Tigers held the Terriers to 39% from the field, a late stretch of turnovers and missed shots chipped away at its lead.
Fortunately for DePauw, key players such as Nick Felke, who finished with 14 points and three assists, as well as Nolan Ginther, who recorded his second double-double of the season (16 points, 10 rebounds) struck down any run Hiram tried to make.
Shank completed the game with a career-high 18 points after going 8-for-9 in the game, while Decker finished with 14 points to lead a strong bench presence throughout the game.
The Tigers improve to 8-5 in the NCAC and 11-9 overall. DePauw University men's basketball is back home on Saturday, Feb.8, to face the Allegheny Gators at 2 pm.
