Box Score Whittier, Calif. - Eighth-ranked DePauw held host Whittier to a combined 15 points in the first and fourth quarters and ran its win streak to six with a 59-46 win at the Purple and Gold Poet Classic. The Tigers moved to 10-1, while Whittier dropped to 5-5.
Trailing 20-17 in the second, DePauw scored 11 straight on a trio of 3-pointers from Sydney Kopp and a bucket by Emma LeMasters to take a 28-20 lead on the way to a 32-23 halftime advantage.
Claire Keefe scored on back-to-back possessions early in the third and Kopp followed with a bucket to extend the lead to 38-23 before the Poets closed the gap to 44-38 by the end of the quarter.
The hosts opened the fourth with a trey but that was their lone field goal of the quarter as DePauw countered with another 11-0 run to push the lead back to double digits.
Kopp paced DePauw with 22, while Keefe added 10 and 11 rebounds. Cali Cubel led Whittier with 12 points and Emily Guerena grabbed six rebounds.
DePauw shot 39.6 percent to Whittier's 31.3 percent and the Tigers outscored the Poets from the line, 16-5. The Tigers also held a 38-21 rebounding edge.
The Tigers open the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday, December 31, with a 1 p.m. North Coast Athletic Conference game against Kenyon.
