Tigers in Second after First Day of Phoenix Fall Classic

Chicago, Ill. - Led by Charlie Stewart-Bates' third-place showing in the 1,650-yard freestyle, DePauw totaled 139 points and is in second place after the first evening of the three-day Phoenix Fall Classic at University of Chicago. Lewis leads with 144 and Illinois Institute of Technology is third with 130.

Stewart-Bates touched in 16:22.04, while Jack Christie was sixth in the event in 16:36.76 and Tommy Hackley eighth (16:53.33).

The Tigers' 200-yard freestyle relay of Joel Orloff, Ryan Smith, Ian Longan and Jake Frech was sixth in 1:26.16 and the 400 medley relay of Seth Fagen, Patrick Unterreiner, Ben Hilfinger and Frech was eighth in 3:30.81.

Saturday's prelims get underway at 10 a.m. CST.
