Box Score Greencastle, Ind.- The DePauw University men's basketball team bounced back from a double-digit deficit in the first half to beat Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology 66-61.
The first ten minutes of the first half was controlled by the Fightin' Engineers, who jumped in front of the Tigers 3-18. DePauw struggled to find its rhythm on both ends of the court, shooting below 20% overall, heading to the locker room down by 19 at the half.
With the crowd behind them and a new game plan, DePauw took to the court with a chip on its shoulder. Right away junior forward Nolan Ginther took the game into his own hands and scored back-to-back baskets to cut Rose-Hulman's lead to 14.
Steadily the Tigers began chipping away at the Fightin' Engineers lead with one three-pointer after another. On the defensive end, DePauw turned up its aggression, effectively slowing down its opponent's scoring ability.
Fourteen minutes into the second half DePauw's offense suddenly erupted. Moving the ball around the arc the Tigers were finally able to shift the defense and get a variety of looks. Junior guard Caymn Lutz found success attacking the basket while Cooper Mixon and Aaron Shank got big in the paint.
With under ten minutes left in the game, the fieldhouse was roaring with excitement after freshman guard Elijah Hales made one of four three-pointers in the final minutes of the game to put the Tigers down by just three possessions.
Suddenly DePauw was back in the game, eventually taking the lead with one minute remaining. The Tigers finished the game at the free-throw line putting away the Fightin' Engineers 66-61.
DePauw's next game is on the road to play the University of Chicago in the Midway Classic on Saturday, Nov. 23, with tip-off set for 1 p.m. EST.
