Tigers Split at Midwest Invitational

Madison, Wisc. -- 39th ranked DePauw split two matches at the Midwest Invitational in Madison, Wisc. on Friday.

The Tigers fell to No. 40 Gustavus Adolphus in their first match 6-3 but picked up an 8-1 win over Augustana (Ill.) in their second.

In their first match, DePauw took two singles wins and one doubles win over the Golden Gusties.

Meredith Breda claimed two of those behind a 7-5, 6-0 No. 4 singles win and an 8-1 No. 3 doubles win with Amanda Showalter. Showalter did the same but won her No. 5 singles flight in three sets 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (10-7).

Gustavus Adolphus (8-5) took the No. 1 and No. 2 doubles flights by the same 8-6 score. They also took the No. 2 and No. 3 singles flights in straight sets.

At No. 1 singles, Colleen Morris fell in three sets 4-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4), and at No. 6 singles Sarah Wilder took her opponent to three sets but fell 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-5).

Against Augustana (16-7), the Tigers took the three doubles matches and only fell at No. 2 singles.

Each doubles match ended at 8-4 as DePauw claimed victories from their No. 1 team Megan Galle and Morris, their No. 2 team Ali Bush and Wilder and their No. 3 team Breda and Showalter.

In singles play, Morris came back after a first set defeat to win at No. 1 singles 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (10-6).

Breda at No. 3 did the same thing as Breda won 2-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-2). At No. 6, Wilder won 7-5, 6-3; at No. 4, Bush won 6-1, 6-2, and at No. 5 singles Amanda Showalter won 6-0, 6-2.

DePauw moved to 4-9 with the split. They continue play in the Midwest Invitational on Saturday where they will face Wisconsin-Whitewater in the fifth place match.
