Tigers Move to 2-1 in NCAC After Split

Greencastle, Ind. – The DePauw women's tennis team split a pair of conference matches on Saturday with a 5-4 win over Ohio Wesleyan and a 6-3 loss to Denison.

Against 37th-ranked Denison (11-7, 3-0 NCAC West), DePauw pulled ahead early with two doubles wins. At No. 1, Megan Galle and Sarah Wilder won 8-2, and at No. 2, Meredith Breda and Amanda Showalter won 8-6. No. 3 doubles was a close contest but Ali Bush and Colleen Morris fell in the tiebreaker 9-8 (7-2).

In singles play, DePauw's lone win came at No. 6 where Wilder picked up a 6-4, 6-3 win.

Denison's Lauren Hawley, ranked 13th in the region, defeated Morris at No. 1 singles 6-0, 6-1. Galle lost in three sets at No. 2 singles 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.

Breda lost a heartbreaker at the No. 3 flight 6-7 (10-8), 7-6 (7-5), 1-0 (13-11). Bush fell at the No. 4 spot 7-6 (9-7), 6-2, and Showalter lost at No. 5 6-3, 7-6 (7-5).

DePauw bounced back with a 5-4 win over Ohio Wesleyan (9-4, 0-2 NCAC West) after starting the match by dropping two of three doubles matches.

The No. 2 doubles team of Morris and Bush recorded a 9-7 win. Galle and Wilder fell 8-6 at No. 1 doubles and Breda and Libby Grant lost 8-6 at the No. 3 flight.

DePauw then won the match by taking the 3-6 flights. At No. 3, Breda won 7-5, 6-2, at No. 4, Bush won 6-3, 6-2, and at No. 5 Wilder won 6-2, 6-0. Grace Haigh then won at the No. 6 flight for her first dual match victory of the year 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.

At the No. 1 flight, Morris fell 7-5, 6-4, and at the No. 2 spot Galle fell 7-6 (8-6), 6-2.

DePauw is now 6-11 overall and 2-1 in the NCAC West. They travel to WashU on Saturday.
