Greencastle, Ind. – The 23rd-ranked DePauw women's tennis team defeated the 29th-ranked Gustavus Adolphus 5-4 on Saturday to improve to 2-3 on the year.
The Tigers had a number of clutch performances, beginning with a 2-1 start in doubles play.
The No. 1 doubles team of Alyssa Seneviratne and Meredith Breda won the final five games of their match and came back for a 9-7 win. While the No. 2 team fell 8-5, the No. 3 team of Colleen Morris and Ali Bush picked up an 8-4 win.
Seneviratne continued her strong play into her No. 1 singles match where she defeated Bri Hartmann 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. Hartman was ranked fifth in the ITA Division III Women's National Rankings to enter the year.
Gustavus Adolphus (1-3) won the next three flights. Morris fell in three sets at the No. 2 flight 3-6, 6-2, 6-4; Bush lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 and Breda fell at the No. 4 flight 4-6, 7-6 (7), 6-4.
Then DePauw picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6. Amanda Showalter won 7-6 (3), 6-4 and Megan Galle won 6-3, 6-2.
DePauw resumes play March 3 when they play Millsaps and Harding at Rhodes College.
