#13 Tigers Open Season with Win over Augustana

Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw opened the second quarter with a 9-0 run and outscored visiting Augustana 25-10 in the quarter on the way to a 68-58 win over the Vikings. The 13th-ranked Tigers moved to 1-0, while Augustana dropped to 0-2.

The Tigers fell behind by as many as six in the opening minutes of the contest, but held a 16-15 lead after the first stanza. DePauw extended the lead to 25-15 with nine straight points in the first three minutes of the second. Augustana was still within nine at 32-23 before DePauw closed the half with a 9-2 run. The Tigers' Claire Keefe scored 12 of her 16 first-half points in the period and DePauw took a 41-25 lead into the intermission.

DePauw's lead reached as many as 19 late in the third and the Vikings closed to within eight in the final minute, but Maya Howard knocked in all six of her free throws in the final 35 seconds.

Howard and Keefe each scored 18 in the win, while Maeve Summerville added 10. Alexis Jones paced the Vikings with 16 points with Scooter Lopez adding 10.

The Tigers shot 45.1 percent from the floor to Augustana's 36.5 percent and DePauw hit 5 of 13 from 3-point range with the Vikings knocking in just 3 of 20. The hosts held a 36-24 rebounding edge as Natalie Kehrt, Hayley Cange and Keefe each had five. Jones led Augustana with seven boards. Sydney Kopp had five of the Tigers' 15 assists.

DePauw returns to action on Saturday, November 17, when it faces Otterbein in a 5 p.m. game at Trine.

I loved the friendly atmosphere at DePauw right when I visited on campus! I also thought that DePauw offered a lot of ways to grow as a student and to explore what I would like to study. Lastly, I really liked the fact that I could play basketball and be involved in other things that DePauw has!
