Box Score Greencastle, Ind. – The DePauw men's basketball team could not hold on to a 35-34 halftime lead against Wooster on Saturday and ultimately lost the North Coast Athletic Conference matchup 73-56.
The Tigers got off to a hot start, hitting their first three shots (all 3-pointers) to go up 9-3. David Vogel hit the first and Luke Lattner hit the next two. However, Wooster captured its first lead shortly after and led 16-11 after a 10-2 run.
Bradley Fey, who led the Tigers with 12 points, hit key back-to-back 3-pointers to tie the game at 30 with 5:13 remaining in the first half, and Cris Burrough put the Tigers on top to enter the half at 35-34.
Wooster came out strong in the second half, tying the game at 36 and taking the lead for the remainder of the game with 18:02 remaining.
DePauw's hot hand cooled off as they shot just 27 percent in the second half, as opposed to its 37 percent shooting in the first 20 minutes. They shot 8-of-15 from beyond the arc in the first half (53 percent) and went 2-of-9 in the second half (22 percent).
Wooster stayed steady for both halves, shooting 45 percent in the first and 43 percent in the second. However, they won the second half 39-21 after trailing at halftime.
Lattner added eight points for the Tigers, and Mason Hankins added six. Mark Johnson and Jack VandeMerkt each pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
Wooster's Spencer Williams scored 14 points to lead all scorers, while Josh Kipfer added six points and 12 rebounds.
DePauw dropped its sixth straight contest to fall to 6-11 overall and 2-8 in conference play. Wooster improved to 12-5 overall and 8-2 in the NCAC.
The Tigers return to action 6 p.m. Wednesday when they travel to Denison.
