Tigers Open Season with 53-0 Win at Earlham

Richmond, Ind. - DePauw totaled 464 yards of offense and held host Earlham to just 99 including minus 47 on the ground on the way to a 53-0 victory over the Quakers in the Tigers' season opener. Earlham dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

The Tigers scored on six of seven first-half possessions in building a 39-0 lead at the half and posted their first opening-game shutout since a 25-0 victory over Chicago in the 1997 opener.

"It was a good opening win for our guys," DePauw head coach Bill Lynch said.

"I thought our guys played hard, I thought they were excited to play and one of the real benefits was that we got to play a lot of kids."

Jason Kirchhoff rushed for a career-high 131 yards on just 11 carries with two scores and Amen Galley chipped in 69 yards on nine attempts as the Tigers amassed 375 ground yards and five rushing touchdowns.

Matt Hunt completed 7-of-12 passes for 85 yards and rushed for another 29 yards. Connor Jeffers and Nolan Ayres each caught two passes.

Sam Panton paced Earlham with 21 rushing yards, but DePauw sacked Quakers quarterback nine times for 69 yards in losses. In all, Earlham lost 122 yards while rushing.

Treylon Anderson completed 8-of-17 passes for 80 yards, while Wesley Hundley was 5-of-6 for 66 yards. Marcus Cooper and Jalen Kenner each caught four passes.

Will Longthorne led the Tigers with nine tackles, while Philip Ganser followed with seven. Chris Hawk led the way with 2.0 sacks for 11 yards in losses, while Longthorne and Hawk each totaled 2.5 tackles for loss.

Lajay Kelly paced Earlham with 13 tackles, while Adam Jolly added 11.

DePauw opens the home and North Coast Athletic Conference portion of its schedule when it hosts Wooster on September 19 at 1 p.m.
