Madison, Wis. - After an opening-round bye, #14 DePauw advanced to the Midwest Invitational semifinals with an 8-1 win over Gustavus Adolphus. The Tigers improved to 8-7 and face Case Western Reserve tomorrow at 7:45 a.m. CDT. The Gusties dropped to 8-10.
DePauw opened the match with a doubles sweep as Claire Marshall and Maggie MacPhail defeated Laurel Krebsbach and Sidney Dirks 8-1, Julie Wittwer and Kaitlin Pickrel (DPUW) topped Lizzy Stanczyk and Michaela Schulz 8-0 and Taylor Mahr and Carolyn Huerth were 8-5 winners over Ally Baker and Katie Aney.
Three of the six singles matches went to a third set with DePauw winning two of them. Marshall won over Schulz 7-6 (7-4), 3-6, 1-0 (10-2) at number one, while MacPhail topped Krebsbach 6-2, 5-7, 1-0 (11-9) at the second spot.
At number three singles, Mahr topped Stanczyk (GAC) 6-2, 6-4 with Gustavus picking up its lone point at fourth singles with Dirks beating Wittwer 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (14-12).
Pickrel defeated Aney at fifth singles 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 and Huerth was a 6-0, 6-1 victor over Baker at the sixth spot.
