Tigers Advance to NCAA Second Round with Win over Hanover

Box Score

Greencastle, Ind. - Three DePauw players scored 15 points each and the Tigers outrebounded visiting Hanover, 51-27, as DePauw advanced to the NCAA Division III second round with an 83-57 victory over the Panthers.

The Tigers face Maryville (Tenn.) in tomorrow night's 7 p.m. second-round game after the Scots defeated John Carroll, 66-56, in the evening's first game.

Hanover's Meagan Caudill hit a three-pointer just 14 seconds into the game, but DePauw responded with seven straight and never trailed again. During one stretch in the first half, the Tigers scored 15 straight to turn a two-point lead into a 25-8 advantage after Jenna Stoner's three-pointer and jumper.

DePauw's biggest lead of the half came on the final possession when Emma Ondik buried a three to give DePauw a 37-18 advantage.

The Panthers chipped away and closed to within 12 at 46-34 after Allison Nash's layup with 13:30 remaining. Claire Ryan hit two free throws and Lauren Abendroth buried a three before Taylor Howard hit a layup to push the margin to 53-34.

Shauna Watson's free throw stopped the run, but Savannah Trees knocked in a three and Hannah Douglas hit a free throw after a foul was called on the play.

Hanover countered with a bucket, but Abendroth hit a three followed by two layups from Hannah Lukemeyer and a Trees jumper which extended the lead to 66-37 with 8:24 left.

"Congrats to Hanover on a great, great year," DePauw head coach Kris Huffman said.
"They pose a lot of problems for defenses and I'm proud how our team prepared for them this week. I thought we did a lot of nice things. We finally got things on track in that second half little spurt with Hannah Lukemeyer coming in and getting things started. I'm proud of having the chance to move on."

Abendroth, Trees and Douglas each scored 15, while Taylor Howard had eight rebounds in the win. Megan Caudill led Hanover with 18 points, while Julia Miller chipped in 10.

DePauw shot 45.5 percent from the field to Hanover's 28.3 percent and DePauw held a 51-27 rebounding edge.

With her last free throws, Trees tied Amy Argetsinger (2001-05) for the DePauw career scoring record of 1,447 points.
