Box Score Gambier, Ohio- Despite shooting just 36.5 percent the DePauw women's basketball team forced 20 turnovers on their way to a 64-51 victory over Kenyon, Saturday afternoon.
Ranked ninth in the D3hoops.com poll and eighth in the coaches poll, the Tigers improved to 22-1 overall and 15-0 in North Coast Athletic Conference play, while the Ladies dropped to 6-16 on the year and 4-10 in the NCAC.
Kenyon jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on a pair of threes from Bailey Dominguez.
DePauw battled back to take a 7-6 advantage with 14:57 left on the clock. After the Ladies retook the lead with 12:54 remaining Hannah Douglas hit a layup, putting the Tigers back in front for good. Emma Ondik sank back-to-back threes in the closing seconds to put DePauw in front 34-25 at halftime.
Ondik led all scorers with nine first-half points. The Tigers shot 37.5 percent (12-of-32) from the floor, including a 41.7 percent (5-of-12) mark from three.
In the second half, Kenyon cut the deficit to four on two separate occasions, but the Ladies were unable retake the lead.
Three straight baskets helped the Tigers stretch their lead to double-digits at the 11:42 mark. A pair of jumpers from Ondik and Taylor Howard highlighted the run, while Ondik capped the run with a three to put DePauw in front 49-38.
DePauw struggled from the floor, shooting 36.5 percent (23-of-63), including a 38.9 percent (7-of-18) mark from three and a 78.6 percent (11-of-14) clip from the charity stripe. Ondik netted 17 points, going 5-for-9 from three with two assists. Douglas led the Tigers with 15 with Savannah Trees and Lauren Abendroth adding 10 each. Abby Keller grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds.
Trees moved into third on DePauw's all-time scoring list, passing Kelly Morrison. She now has 1,376 points in her career and trails Carla Weaver by just five points for second on the list.
Kenyon shot 44.7 percent (21-of-47) from the field, but committed 20 turnovers, leading to 32 points for the Tigers. DePauw had a 25-7 edge on bench scoring and outrebounded the Ladies 36-34.
The Tigers close out their regular season Saturday, February 21, when they host Ohio Wesleyan in a 1 p.m. contest.
