Box Score Wilmington, Ohio - DePauw outscored Mount St. Joseph 23-8 in the third quarter to push a seven-point lead to 22 on the way to a 68-42 win over Mount St. Joseph in the Damon's/Hampton Inn Tip-Off Classic. The Tigers moved to 2-1 on the season, while the Lions dropped to 0-3.
DePauw, ranked 15th in the preseason coaches' poll and 19th by D3hoops.com, scored the game's first four points and never trailed on the way to the victory. The Lions knotted the score at 14-14 with 8:21 left in the second quarter, but the Tigers scored seven straight capped by Maya Howard's three-pointer at the 6:18 mark. DePauw took a 29-22 lead into the intermission.
The Tigers opened the third quarter with a 21-2 run to expand the margin to 50-24. Mount St. Joseph got no closer than 19 the rest of the way.
Maya Howard was named to the all-Classic team and led DePauw with 16 points in 23 minutes including a 3-of-4 performance from three-point range. Abby Keller followed with 13 points and Claire Ryan added 12. Taylor Howard grabbed eight rebounds as DePauw held a 43-23 edge on the boards.
Meredith Hartfiel paced the Lions with 10 points, while Ciera Phillips grabbed eight rebounds.
The Tigers shot 47.3 percent to Mount St. Joseph's 25.5 percent and held a commanding 34-12 advantage in points in the paint.
