Box Score Granville, Ohio - DePauw guard Savannah Trees broke a 55-55 tie on a bucket with 2:21 left and scored on the next two possessions while the defense held Denison scoreless over the final four minutes as the Tigers collected a 61-55 North Coast Athletic Conference road victory.
DePauw, ranked 12th in the latest coaches' poll and 14th by D3hoops.com, improved to 12-1 overall and 5-0 in the NCAC while the Big Red dropped to 7-7 overall and 3-2 in the conference.
Denison's Kellie Arter knocked in a three-pointer at the 4:07 mark to cap a 7-0 run and even the score at 55-55. The teams were scoreless until the Trees layup that came after a couple of misses and Tigers offensive rebounds.
The Big Red missed on four field goal tries in their final three possessions, while Trees knocked in a pair of jumpers.
The game was tight throughout, but DePauw grabbed a 10-point lead in the first half and held a 34-27 edge at the break.
Denison opened the second half with a 9-2 run to even the count at 36-36. Lauren Abendroth responded with a three and Abby Keller hit a pair of free throws to give the Tigers a 41-36 lead.
Trees hit a pair of charity tosses with 9:53 left that pushed DePauw's advantage to 48-39. The Tigers' lead was still seven at 55-48 before the Big Red scored the next seven to set up the finish.
Emma Ondik led all scorers with 15, while Abendroth and Hannah Douglas each scored 13 and Trees 12. Keller snagged a team-high seven rebounds, while Douglas had three assists and two blocks.
Arter paced Denison with 13 points followed by Mary Margaret Habel with 12. Jodan Holmes grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds and blocked two shots.
DePauw shot just 41.2 percent from the floor, but hit all 13 free throws. Denison connected on 40.4 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Tigers, 31-28.
The Tigers return to action on Saturday, January 10, with a 1 p.m. home contest with Kenyon.
