St. Louis, Mo. - DePauw and Washington University battled for the fourth time this season and it was the host Bears who rallied with four singles wins to advance to the NCAA Division III quarterfinals after a 5-2 win over the Tigers.

DePauw, ranked 11th in Division III, finished its season at 19-5, while the ninth-ranked Bears advanced in the tournament with a 19-5 mark.

The Tigers took a 2-1 lead after doubles as the third duo of Kaitlin Pickrel and Julie Wittwer were 8-4 winners over Betsy Edershile and Hanna Newstadt. The Bears' number-one team of Rebecca Ho and Corinne Rauck evened the match with an 8-6 victory over Caroline Emhardt and Maggie MacPhail. DePauw regained the lead after the second-doubles tandem of Meg Crowley and Claire Marshall took an 8-4 win over Aly Coran and Jamie Silverberg.

Ho topped Marshall at second singles 6-4, 7-6 and Silverberg did the same to MacPhail at first singles 6-4, 6-3 to give Washington a 3-2 lead. Coran defeated DePauw's Carolyn Huerth 6-3, 6-4 at third singles to push the lead to 4-2.

All three of the remaining singles matches entered a third set with the Bears winning the first in each instance. Edershile captured the match win for the Bears with a 7-5, 2-6, 6-4 victory over Emhardt.

The season isn't over for MacPhail and Emhardt, however, as the doubles team will compete in the NCAA Division III Doubles Championship.
