Tigers Stun Gators; Move Into First Place in the NCAC

Meadville, Pa.- Elizabeth Seewer's goal in the 88th minute propelled the Tigers past Allegheny by a score of 2-1 in North Coast Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon. DePauw snapped the Gators six game win streak and moved into first place in the NCAC standings.

With the win the Tigers improved to 10-6 overall and 5-1 in NCAC play, while Allegheny dropped to 9-5-2 overall and 5-1 in the NCAC.

After a scoreless first half DePauw's Jennifer Dimos broke the tie scoring an unassisted goal with 55:47 on the clock. Allegheny quickly answered when Alison Buzzard drove home a pass from Leanne Blaster in the 59th minute.

The contest was destined for overtime when the Tigers broke away and grabbed the victory in regulation. Megann Lear's pass gave Seewer a breakaway opportunity and Seewer blasted a shot past the Gators' keeper sealing the game for DePauw.

Allegheny outshot the Tigers 18-6 and held a 6-4 edge on corner kicks. DePauw goalie Emma Cooper made seven saves in the win.

DePauw controls their own destiny in their pursuit of a regular season NCAC championship. The Tigers take on Wittenberg Tuesday, October 29, at Boswell Field. This crucial NCAC contest is slated for a 7 p.m. start.
