May 13, 2011, Greencastle, Ind. — DePauw, ranked 17th in Division III, advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championships following a 5-1 win over 30th-ranked Wheaton (Ill.) College. The Tigers improved to 14-9 and advanced to Saturday's Noon third-round match where they'll face the winner of the Denison-Albion match. The Thunder finished their season at 21-3.
DePauw swept the doubles play to take a 3-0 lead as the number-three team of Tricia Wilks and Lizzy Whitlatch topped Sarah Ray and Kirsten Boyer by an 8-4 score. The Tigers' number-one tandem of Janelle Arita and Kelly Gebert made it 2-0 with an 8-3 victory over Elizabeth Worsowicz and Sara Federschmidt before Elizabeth Young and Meg Crowley completed the sweep at second doubles with an 8-3 win over Lindsey Hallett and Marissa Shults.
The Tigers extended the lead to 4-0 as Katie Regan defeated Shults by a 6-3, 6-2 score at number-six singles. Wheaton made it 4-1 as Boyer defeated Young 6-3, 7-5 at number-five, but Arita closed out the match with a 6-4 6-2 win at the number-one slot over Worsowicz.
