DePauw's 21-game SCAC Win Streak Comes to an End at Trinity

January 21, 2011, San Antonio, Texas —  DePauw battled back from an eight-point deficit to tie the game at 57-57, but host Trinity closed the contest with an 11-2 run and claimed a 68-59 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win.

DePauw, ranked ninth in the latest USA Today/ESPN Division III Coaches' Poll and 10th by D3hoops.com, dropped to 14-3 overall and 7-1 in the SCAC, while Trinity improved to 7-9 overall and 4-4 in the conference. The loss snapped the Tigers' nine-game win streak as well as their 21-game SCAC win streak.

The visiting Tigers led by as many as six in the first half at 18-12, but Trinity led at the intermission, 33-29, after finishing the half on a 10-2 run.

Trinity quickly pushed the lead to nine at 38-29 with the first five points of the second half before DePauw closed the gap to one at 40-39 with 12:35 remaining. The hosts later extended the lead to 55-47 after Abby Dietert's three-point play with 4:39 left.

Lauren Goff knocked down a three-pointer and Kate Walker followed with a pair of free throws after a Trinity technical foul to trim the lead to 55-52 with 3:37 remaining. Trinity's Nicolette Halbleib stopped the run with a layup, but Goff hit another three and Alex Gasaway added a bucket which knotted the score at 57-57 with 2:30 left.

Dietert countered with a jumper and two free throws on the next possession before DePauw's Katie Aldrich scored on a layup to make it 61-59 with 37 seconds remaining. The Tigers fouled Halbleib who made both free throws to push the lead to 63-59. After Goff missed a three, Trinity hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Goff paced the Tigers with 16 points, while Aldrich added 13. Walker finished with 12 and Katie Mathews 10. Aldrich grabbed 10 rebounds for the double-double. Mathews and Walker each dished out five assists in the loss.

Halbleib paced Trinity with 19 points followed by Anne Waidelich with 15 and Dietert with 12. Jana Tucker and Waidelich each grabbed six boards in the victory.

DePauw entered the week ranked third in the nation in both rebound margin and fewest turnovers per game, but the Tigers were outrebounded for just the second time all year, 37-34, and committed 20 turnovers.

The Tigers travel to Southwestern tomorrow night for a 6 p.m. CST contest.
