November 29, 2009, Crestview Hills, Ky. — Seventh-ranked DePauw scored 13 straight points midway through the second half and took the lead for good in a 57-43 win over Manchester at the Julie Costello Memorial Classic at Thomas More. DePauw improved to 3-2 with the win, while Manchester dropped 0-5.
The Tigers and Spartans were tied at 31-31 before Lindsay Vandivier and Katie Aldrich combined for eight points as DePauw went on a 13-0 run which gave them a 44-31 advantage. Manchester got no closer than 11 the rest of the way.
Kate Walker paced DePauw with 12 points followed by Emily Marshall (left) with her second straight double-double of 11 points and 11 boards and Jenna Fernandez with 10 points. Marshall and Katie Mathews were named to the all-tournament team.
Laine Mello was Manchester's lone double-digit scorer with 11 points and also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.
The Tiger shot 38.1 percent for the game including 43.3 percent in the second half, while the Spartans hit 36.2 percent from the floor. DePauw held a 45-30 edge on the boards and committed just 11 turnovers.
DePauw opens Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Friday, December 4, when it travels to Rhodes for a 6 p.m. CST game.
