February 1, 2008, Georgetown, Texas - The 13th-ranked Tigers improved to 16-3 overall and remained unbeaten in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following a 55-45 win at Southwestern. The Pirates dropped to 9-9 overall and 3-6 in the SCAC.
Battling through a sluggish start, the Tigers put together a 10-0 run over the final four minutes of the first half to head to the intermission with a 24-17 lead. They extended the margin to nine early in the second half before the hosts closed to 47-43 with 2:30 remaining.
Cassie Pruzin knocked down a pair of free throws with 2:08 left before Gretchen Haehl scored on a drive and Pruzin hit two more from the charity stripe with 27.8 seconds left to secure the win.
Fernandez led all scorers with 20, while Pruzin added 17. Fernandez and Pruzin each grabbed eight rebounds as DePauw held a 37-26 advantage on the boards. Beth Thomas paced Southwestern with nine points and nine rebounds.
The Tigers shot just 38.8 percent from the floor and matched a season-high with 25 turnovers, but Southwestern shot just 38.3 percent and committed 25 turnovers.
DePauw returns to action on Saturday, Februrary 2, when it travels to Trinity for a 6 p.m. CST contest which can be heard on WGRE.
