DePauw advances to SCAC semifinals after 79-53 win over Southwestern

February 25, 2005, Memphis, Tenn. - DePauw trailed by a 15-9 score midway through the first half, but went on to outscore Southwestern 26-7 the remainder of the half on the way to a 79-53 victory over the Pirates.

The Tigers, ranked 14th by D3hoops.com and 15th in the latest coaches' poll improved to 22-4 on the season, while Southwestern dropped to 9-17. DePauw advances to play Rhodes in Saturday's second semifinal game. Rhodes defeated Hendrix 82-74 in tonight's final quarterfinal game. Tipoff is at 3 p.m. CST and can be heard live on WGRE.

Liz Bondi led the Tigers with a career-high 13 points, while Amy Argetsinger scored 12 with Sarah Zondor and Suzy Doughty each adding 10 in the win.

After falling behind by six, the Tigers rallied by scoring seven straight to take the lead. With the game still knotted at 20-20, the Tigers scored the next 10 points and outscored the Pirates 15-2 the remainder of the half to take a 35-22 halftime advantage.

DePauw opened the second half by scoring the first eight points to extend the margin to 43-22 with 17:42 remaining. Southwestern got no closer than 16 the rest of the way.

Zondor and Caitlin McGonigal each hauled down seven rebounds for the Tigers who held a 42-24 edge on the glass.

Kendal George led Southwestern with 17 followed by Kari Crandall with 16 and Erin Nelson with 12.

DePauw shot 53.6 percent from the floor including 66.7 percent in the second half while holding the Pirates to just 36.7 percent for the game.
