December 2, 2005, Conway, Ark. - The 18th-ranked DePauw women's basketball team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 76-66 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Hendrix in the conference opener for both teams. Hendrix suffered its first loss of the season in six tries.
The host Warriors battled back from as much as a 10-point deficit and trailed 62-59 after Tori Huggins' bucket with under four minutes to play. The Tigers went on a 10-2 run to push the lead to 72-61 with just 23 seconds left.
DePauw led most of the first half and went to the intermission with a 39-30 advantage after knocking down six three-pointers.
Six Tigers scored in double figures led by Gretchen Haehl with 13 and Kalei Lowes with 12. Liz Bondi and Caitlin McGonigal each added 11 with Suzy Doughty and Bridget Bailey following with 10 apiece.
Bonnie Hicks paced Hendrix with 22 with Kyra Shachmut scoring 19 and Huggins adding 13.
The Tigers held a 41-37 advantage on the boards and were led by Bondi's seven. Hicks led the Warriors with seven. DePauw shot 40.6 percent from the floor, while the Warriors hit 43.9 percent. The Tigers hit 17 of their 19 free throws in the win.
DePauw travels to Rhodes on Sunday, while Hendrix hosts Rose-Hulman.
