Women's Tennis

Tigers compete at ITA Central Region Championships; Andrade/Shim advance to nationals

October 4, 2005, Springfield, Ohio - Nine women represented DePauw at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Singles and Doubles Championships with one player reaching the singles final and a doubles team winning the regional and advancing to the national tournament.

In doubles competition, Erin Andrade and Connie Shim entered the tournament seeded fifth and won all five matches including the title match where they beat Meghan Damico and Sarah Mitchiner of Denison 6-3, 6-2. They now advance to the ITA national tournament later this month.

DePauw's Amrita Padda entered the tournament seeded first and won five matches before losing in the title match to Carrie Preston of Washington (Mo.) 6-1, 6-4. Betsey Flanzer won four matches before dropping a semifinal match to Preston 6-2, 6-2.

Alex Nelson and Kristine Lewry each advanced to the quarterfinals after advancing past their first three opponents.
