January 23, 2005, Greencastle, Ind. - The 20th-ranked Tigers improved to 15-3 overall and 6-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference following a 72-50 victory over visiting Hendrix. The Warriors dropped to 11-7 overall and 3-4 in the conference as DePauw won its 17th consecutive home SCAC game.
The Tigers put together a 15-0 run over a 5:26 stretch of the first half to take a 27-10 lead and they led 33-14 at the intermission. Hendrix battled back in the second half to close the margin to nine on a couple of occasions.
The Warriors were still within 11 at 56-45 after Abby Mowrey's layup with 5:32 remaining, but DePauw scored the next 11 to put the game away.
"Every possession was kind of a struggle," DePauw head coach Kris Huffman said. "Hendrix is the leading defensive team in the conference and we were happy to survive today."
Amy Argetsinger led DePauw with 18 points with Sarah Zondor adding 14 and Caitlin McGonigal scoring 11. The Tigers held a 47-36 advantage on the boards with Suzy Doughty equaling a career high with seven. DePauw grabbed 20 offensive rebounds in the win.
Gretchen Haehl posted career highs with seven assists and six steals and equaled a career best with six rebounds.
Erin McKenzie and Mowrey each scored 11 to lead the Warriors, while Jamie Ball hauled down seven rebounds. Bonnie Hicks dished out four assists and McKenzie blocked four shots.
DePauw shot just 37 percent from the field, but held Hendrix to 38 percent and helped force 27 Warriors turnovers.
The Tigers travel to Sewanee on Friday for a 6 p.m. CST contest that can be heard live on WGRE, while Hendrix hosts Oglethorpe on Friday.
