Memphis, Tenn. - DePauw advanced to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Tourament championship game as it won its 14th straight game and improved to 24-3 with a 73-54 victory over Sewanee in the semifinals.
The Tigers, ranked eighth in the coaches' poll and ninth by D3hoops.com, face third-ranked Trinity at 2:30 p.m. CST on Sunday for the conference's automatic qualification into the NCAA Division III Championship. Trinity was a 70-50 winner over Hendrix in the first semifinal contest.
Sarah Zondor scored 19 of her game-high 21 points in the second half as DePauw pulled away from a 34-28 halftime advantage. Jordan Cuddy added 14 and Tria Yoder followed with 10. Danielle Pettay paced Sewanee with 13 points, while Sally Jackson hauled down 10 rebounds. Suzy Doughty grabbed six rebounds for DePauw and equaled a career-high with seven assists.
Sewanee held and early lead but a 13-3 run over an eight-minute stretch of the first half put DePauw ahead for good. After DePauw pushed the lead to as many as 16 in the second half, Sewanee closed the gap to eight with 7:29 remaining when Pattay hit a three to cap a 7-0 run.
DePauw, however, ended the Sewanee rally by putting together a 14-2 run. Zondor scored eight during the stretch and knocked down two of her five second-half three-pointers.
