Greencastle, Ind. - Four Tigers scored in double figures to lead DePauw to a 68-54 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over visiting Hendrix.
The Tigers, ranked 12th in the latest coaches' poll and 17th by D3hoops.com, improved to 19-3 overall and 10-1 in the SCAC with their ninth straight victory. Hendrix dropped to 16-7 overall and 8-4 in the conference. With the victory, DePauw locked up either the first or second seed in the SCAC Tournament held later this month.
Hendrix led 15-14 midway through the first half before the Tigers went on a 14-2 run to take a 28-17 advantage with 4:42 left in the half. The Warriors rallied at the end of the half to cut the margin to 31-25 at the break.
The Warriors opened the second half like they closed the first as Bonnie Hicks and Erin McKenzie hit buckets and Tori Huggins knocked down a three-pointer with 18:03 remaining to give Hendrix a 32-31 advantage.
DePauw roared back as Tria Yoder hit a jumper and Amy Argetsinger buried a three before Colleen Powers scored the next seven to cap a 12-0 run that gave the Tigers a 43-32 lead which they would not relinquish. The Tigers stretched the margin to as many as 22 at 62-40 on Argetsinger's three with 5:04 left.
Argetsinger led all scorers with 18 followed by Sarah Zondor with 15, Powers with 14 and Jordan Cuddy with 10. Huggins paced Hendrix with 14, while Jamie Ball added 13 and Hicks scored 12.
DePauw held a 37-33 advantage on the boards and were paced by Suzy Doughty and Powers with seven each. Ball hauled down seven for the Warriors. Doughty led the Tigers with six assists with Kacey Sommers and Huggins each dishing out four for Hendrix. The Tigers shot just 41.7 percent from the floor, but limited the Warriors to only 40 percent and equaled a season low with just 10 turnovers. DePauw hit four three-pointers to push its season total to 128 which eclipsed the previous single-season record of 124 set last year.
The Tigers host Rhodes at 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 15, while Hendrix is at Rose-Hulman.
