GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Sophomore Caitlin McGonigal scored a career-high 24 and senior Sarah Zondor added 22 as the 15th-ranked Tigers improved to 3-1 with an 81-68 win over host North Central. The Cardinals suffered their first loss in four tries.
The Tigers and Cardinals battled through a first half that included 11 lead changes and four ties with the Tigers closing the half on a 10-2 run to take a 39-32 advantage into the break.
Danielle Tinkhoff's three-point play with 14:51 left closed the gap to 49-45, but the Tigers put together an 8-2 stretch on a basket from Bridget Bailey and six straight points by Zondor to take a 10-point lead with 12:14 remaining.
North Central got no closer than six before the Tigers pushed the advantage to as many as 14 at 71-57 with just over six minutes to play.
Amy Argetsinger added 11 points in the win, while Bailey hauled down a career-high 11 rebounds. The Tigers held a 37-35 advantage on the boards. Danielle Tinkhoff paced the Cardinals with 17 points followed by Kristina Schiefelbei with 16, Jennifer Norris with 12 and Lashawndra Brown with 12. Norris added seven rebounds in the loss. Doughty dished out five assists and had five steals for the Tigers while Shay Green had five assists for North Central. DePauw committed just eight turnovers for the game.
DePauw returns to action on Friday, December 3, when it hosts Manchester at 8 p.m.
