Conway, Ark. - Host Hendrix wiped out a 16-point DePauw lead and defeated the Tigers 58-54 in overtime in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action. DePauw, ranked 18th in the coaches' poll and 21st by D3hoops.com, dropped to 10-3 overall and 1-1 in the SCAC, while Hendrix improved to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
Â
DePauw led 27-13 at halftime and scored the first bucket of the second half to take its biggest lead of the contest. The Warriors then put together a 16-2 run over a six-minute stretch to close the Tigers lead to 31-29 with 12:40 remaining in regulation. The Tigers pushed the margin back to eight, but Hendrix came back again and eventually tied the contest at 47-47 on Tori Huggins' free throw with 47 seconds left.
Â
Hendrix's Erin McKenzie recorded a steal with 12 seconds left and, following a timeout, Hannah Ketter missed a shot that would have won the game. In the overtime period, DePauw briefly took a lead on Sarah Zondor's free throw, but Huggins nailed a three-pointer to give Hendrix its first lead of the contest and one it would not relinquish. Huggins scored nine of her game-high 22 points including the final four from the free throw line to seal the win.
Â
"I was really disappointed with our effort again in the second half," DePauw head coach Kris Huffman said. "The momentum shifted in the second half and no one stepped up like they did in the first half."
Â
Amy Argetsinger led the Tigers with 19, while Sarah Zondor added 11. Abby Mowrey and McKenzie each scored 10 for the Warriors. The Tigers shot just 26 percent in the second half and 20 percent in the overtime to finish at 32.7 percent for the game. After connecting on just 25 percent in the first half, Hendrix came back to shoot 56 percent in the second half and 60 percent in the overtime.
