Greencastle, Ind. -- DePauw, ranked 23rd in Division III, improved to 13-3 overall and 4-1 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference with a 61-29 victory over visiting Sewanee. With the loss, Sewanee dropped to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in the conference.
Sewanee jumped out to a 4-0 lead on buckets by Sally Jackson and Silvana Toro and led 6-2, but it was all DePauw from that point forward. The Tigers held Sewanee scoreless for nearly eight minutes and scored 17 straight points to take a 19-6 lead midway through the first half. That advantage reached 16 at 30-14 at the intermission.
An 8-2 DePauw run to open the second half pushed the lead to 22 before Sewanee closed to within 15 at 38-23. DePauw the outscored Sewanee 11-0 over the next three minutes to take a 26-point lead. DePauw limited Sewanee to just one field goal over the final 12 minutes.
Amy Argetsinger posted her fifth career double-double and third of the season with a game-high 12 points and 10 rebounds. Tria Yoder added 11 as did Jordan Cuddy who was making her first collegiate start. Cuddy filled in for DePauw leading scorer Sarah Zondor who missed the game due to an injury sustained in Friday's win over Centre. Toro and Jackson each scored 10 for Sewanee, while Vanessa Gamble hauled down 10 rebounds.
Suzy Doughty led DePauw with four assists and four steals as the Tigers forced Sewanee into 29 turnovers. DePauw's defense also limited Sewanee to only 23.5 percent shooting including just 17.9 percent in the scond half. DePauw finished with a 41-37 advantage on the boards. The 29 points allowed was DePauw's best defensive performance since an 88-20 win over Rose-Hulman during the 1995-96 season.
