Tigers fall to Trinity in SCAC Championship game

Memphis, Tenn. - The Tigers' season came to an end at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Championship as DePauw fell to Trinity by a 63-47 count.

DePauw, ranked 19th in the latest USA Today/ESPN/WBCA poll and 20th by D3hoops.com, finished the campaign at 22-5, while Trinity improved to 23-5 and advanced to the NCAA Championship.

Trinity scored the first eight points of the contest and held DePauw scoreless for the first 4:19. They led 14-2 before DePauw Dana Ferguson hit two free throws, Kim Weigle hit a three-pointer and Ferguson hit another free throw to make it 14-8 with 13:23 left in the half.

The Tigers closed to within two just before the end of the half after Lindsay Houin buried a three and Ferguson knocked down a free throw. Trinity went to the half with a 23-19 lead.

Trinity again started the second half strong with seven straight points to take a 30-19 advantage with 17:15 remaining.

After DePauw got the margin back to seven at 39-32, Trinity came back a 13-0 run to take their biggest lead of the contest at 52-32 with 5:36 left.

Colleen Powers hit a basket, Tria Yoder hit a three and Lindsay Houin knocked down two jumpers to close the gap to 52-41 with 3:24 remaining. That would be as close as the Tigers would get, however.

Dana Ferguson scored 14 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in her final collegiate game. Melissa Carl led Trinity with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Megan Selmon added 13 and Allison Wooley scored 11. Jenna Smith added eight rebounds and four steals.

The five DePauw seniors' finished their career with a four-year record of 87-20 which tied the classes of 2000 and 2002 for the most victories in a four-year span.
