DePauw opened the 2003-04 season with a 69-56 loss to third-ranked Washington (Mo.) in the first game of the Illinois Wesleyan Tipoff Tournament in Bloomington, Ill.

Lindsay Houin led the Tigers with 13, while Tria Yoder added 12, but DePauw shot just 33 percent from the floor and were outrebounded, 42-32, by the Bears. Lesley Hawley led Washington with 19 followed by Kelly Manning with 11.

The Tigers trailed by as many as 11 in the first half before rallying to within two at 31-29. The Bears led at the half by a 34-29 count. Washington started the second half with an 8-0 run before extending the lead to as many as 23 points at 66-43 with 5:39 remaining. DePauw outscored the Bears 13-3 down the stretch to close the final margin to 69-56.

On Saturday, DePauw faces Illinois College in the consolation game. Tipoff is at 2 p.m. CST.
