Tigers advance to Sweet 16 with 75-58 win over Maryville

Greencastle, Ind. - The DePauw women's basketball team advanced to the Sweet 16 for the third time in the last five years as they defeated visiting Maryville (Tenn.) 75-58.

DePauw equaled its school record with its 23rd win against just three losses, while Maryville closed out the season at 20-8. The win catapults the Tigers into the sectionals (Sweet 16) for the third time in the last five years. DePauw will face Hardin-Simmons on Friday, March 8, at a time and site to be determined on Sunday. Hardin-Simmons defeated Guilford 72-71 on Saturday evening.

Senior Katie Imborek scored a career-high 19 points including 13 in the first half, while Dana Ferguson and Colleen Powers scored 13 and 11, respectively, off the bench.

Maryville jumped out to an early 12-6 lead and still led 20-17 after Jessica Edwards scored with 11:20 left in the half. Lindsey Rush then nailed a three-pointer, Colleen Powers added a three-point play and Sarah MacKay made two free throws to give the Tigers a 25-20 lead with 9:52 left.

The Tigers led by as many as 12 at 40-28 after Heather Wiles' bucket with 2:40 to play in the half. The Lady Scots cut the margin to 42-34 at the half.

Kim Weigle opened the second half with a pair of layups to make it 46-34. Maryville got as close as seven at 52-45 before DePauw went on a 13-2 run over a four-minute stretch to make it 65-47 with 5:17 left.

Hayley Smith paced Maryville with 16 points and Marquita Porter added 15. Ferguson and Amy Argetsinger each had game-highs of seven rebounds.

"Hats off to DePauw," Maryville Coach Dee Bell said. "They're the best if not second best team we've played all year."
