Box Score

GAME STATISTICS

Jackson, Miss. - The DePauw defense allowed just 245 yards and stopped Millsaps three times inside the Tigers' 10-yard line while Andy Yoder tossed three touchdown passes in a 28-7 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over the host Majors. DePauw, winners of three straight, improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in the SCAC. Millsaps dropped to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in SCAC play.

Millsaps looked to score on its first possession as it drove 68 yards in 13 running plays, but the DePauw defense stopped the Majors and forced a field goal attempt which was off to the left.

The Tigers got on the board later in the quarter when Cory Partlow blocked a Millsaps punt and took it in for a score with 4:50 left in the quarter. The guests missed an excellent opportunity to extend the lead when Joshua Swift forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff which Nick Partlow recovered. Three plays later, however, Yoder's pass from the one-yard line was picked off by Millsaps' John Spencer.

After again shutting the Majors down, DePauw took over on the Millsaps 49. Jackson Rust picked up two yards on a run before Yoder teamed with Jamarcus Shephard for a 47-yard score to make it 14-0 with 1:26 left in the first.

The DePauw offense got the ball back on its own 46 and five plays later reached paydirt again on a 43-yard pass play from Yoder to John Stephens to push the Tigers' lead to 21-0 with 11:41 left in the half. Millsaps mounted a late first-half drive that ended in Brandon Morris' fumble at the DePauw six-yard line which was recovered by John Christophersen.

DePauw's final score came early in the fourth. The Tigers took over on their own 33. Yoder connected with Shephard for a 53-yard gain and Matt King rushed for six more before Yoder tossed an eight-yard score to Stephens with 13:56 left. Millsaps took its next possession all the way down to the DePauw two, but again the Tigers' defense took over. Matt Stahley forced Morris to fumble again and recovered it at the three.

The hosts' lone score came after Reggie Young picked off Yoder's pass at the Millsaps 10 and returned it to the DePauw six. Three plays later, Garner Wetzel scored from two yards to make it 28-7 with just 43 seconds left.

DePauw ran just 47 offensive plays, but averaged 6.9 yards per play and outgained the Majors 326-245. Yoder completed 13 of 22 passes for 242 yards. Stephens hauled in four for 80 yards followed by Tolled with three for 19, Shephard two for 100 and Dan Ryan two for 17.

Morris rushed for 63 yards on 23 carries to lead Millsaps. Defensively, the Tigers sacked Millsaps quarterbacks three times. Christophersen was credited with 10 tackles with Beau Davis and Mike Laszynski each adding seven. Matt O'Bryant paced Millsaps with 14 tackles.

DePauw travels to Centre next Saturday, while Millsaps is at Sewanee.
