SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The 13th-ranked DePauw women's basketball team closed the first half by scoring the final eight points and opened the second by scoring the first four on the way to a 61-48 win over host Trinity University.
DePauw remained in first place in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference standings with a 12-2 conference record and improved to 17-4 overall. Trinity fell to 14-6 overall and 8-5 in the SCAC.
In a sluggish first half, at least offensively, the Tigers fell behind by four before closing with an 8-0 run to take a 25-21 halftime lead.
Baskets by Jill Schneider and Sarah MacKay opened the second half and staked the Old Gold to a 29-21 advantage. Mollie Fitzgerald cut the margin back to six, but the Tigers scored six straight to push the lead to 12 and it never went back to single digits.
MacKay led the Tigers with 17 including 13 in the second half. Lindsey Rush added 15 and Schneider hauled down eight rebounds as the Tigers held a 38-36 advantage on the boards. DePauw shot nearly 55 percent in the second half and held Trinity to just 31 percent for the game.
Megan Selmon led Trinity with 18 points.
DePauw travels to Georgetown, Texas, to face Southwestern University on Sunday afternoon.
