DePauw closes season with 99-79 win over Centre
Four Tigers scored in double figures led by Joe Nixon with 28 and Joe Ringger with 18 as the Tigers topped visiting Centre 99-79. Mike Howland added 14 and Dave Gifford 12. The Tigers jumped out to a 53-39 halftime lead on the strength of 55 percent shooting from the field. Centre placed five in double figures led by Rob King and Scott Guttery with 14 each. The win was the Tigers' fifth straight and the 19 wins this year was the most since the 1992-93 season. Box score

 

Tigers win fourth straight with 72-57 victory over Sewanee
Joe Nixon and Mike Howland each scored 17, while Joe Ringger added 14 and Jeremy Bettis 10 in a 72-57 win over Sewanee. The Tigers shot 60 percent in the first half in building a 43-29 lead. The win was the fourth straight for the Tigers who improved to 18-6 overall and 12-5 in the SCAC. They remained one game behind Rose-Hulman and Millsaps in the SCAC standings. Box score

 

DePauw tops Rose-Hulman, 71-61
Joe Ringger led the Tigers with 22 points and a career-high 19 rebounds in a 71-61 victory over visiting Rose-Hulman. The Tigers improved to 17-6 overall and 11-5 in the SCAC. Story with box score

 

Tigers top Southwestern 69-55
Joe Ringger scored 20 including 16 in the first half and grabbed nine rebounds to lead DePauw to a 69-55 win at Southwestern. Dave Gifford and Jeremy Bettis each scored 11 for the 16-6 Tigers. DePauw improved to 10-5 in the SCAC with the victory. Story with box score

 

DePauw sweeps Trinity with 70-58 win
The Tigers won for the first time in San Antonio since beginning SCAC play in 1998-99 with a 70-58 victory. Joe Nixon paced DePauw with 22 followed by Joe Ringger with 13 and Matt Kleymeyer a career-high 11. Game story and box score

 

Tigers fall to league-leading Millsaps 72-63
Millsaps outscored DePauw 17-7 over the last four minutes of the game and defeated the Tigers 72-63. Joe Ringger led the Tigers with 17 points and nine rebounds.  Game story with box score

Tigers win third straight with 83-58 victory at Hendrix
Jon Owens scored a career-high 13 points to lead the Tigers to their third straight win in an 83-58 victory at Hendrix. The Tigers improved to 13-5 overall and 7-4 in the SCAC. Story with box score and play-by-play

 

Nixon scores 29; Tigers win at Rhodes
Joe Nixon scored 29 points and hit all six three-point attempts to lead the Tigers to a 73-61 win at Rhodes. Jeremy Bettis added 13 and Joe Ringger 10 in the Tigers' win. Tigers win at Oberlin, 77-60
Backed by career highs of 26 points from Joe Ringger and 20 from Jeremy Bettis, the Tigers defeated Oberlin College, 77-60, in a non-conference game. Bettis added a career-high 10 rebounds for the double-double. The Tigers led by as many as 21 in the first half before the Yeomen closed the gap to six at the break. Cold second half results in 60-56 loss at Rose-Hulman
The Tigers shot just 15 percent in the second half and watched a 16-point first half lead disappear in the final minute as Rose-Hulman took a 60-56 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win in Terre Haute. The Engineers outscored the Tigers 9-2 over the final 2:07 of the game to take the victory. Joe Nixon led the Tigers with 19 points, while Joe Ringger added 16 and Mike Howland 10. Nixon named SCAC co-Player of the Week
After totaling 52 points and 18 rebounds in two big weekend wins, junior forward Joe Nixon has been selected as the co-Southern Collegiate Athletic ConferencePlayer of the Week. he shared the honor with Centre's Drew Park. This marks the second time this season that Nixon as earned the distinction and fifth time in the last two seasons.

 

Tigers take weekend sweep with 76-51 win over Southwestern
Joe Nixon scored 27 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Tigers to a 76-51 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over Southwestern.  Story with photos | Box Score

 

Tigers get back to winning ways with 73-49 win over Trinity
Four Tigers scored in double figures led by Joe Nixon with 25 as DePauw (9-4, 4-3) defeated visiting Trinity,73-49, in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. Joe Ringger added 14 followed by Jeremy Bettis and Mike Howland with 12 each. Howland dished out eight assists. DePauw loses another close one at Millsaps
Thomas Adams hit two free throws with 10.8 seconds left and Mike Howland's three-point attempt at he buzzer fell off the rim as host Millsaps took a 68-66 win over the Tigers. DePauw fell to 8-4 overall and 3-3 in the SCAC, while the Majors improved to 10-1 and 5-0. DePauw trailed by as many as eight in the second half at 60-52 before battling back to tie the game at 66-66 on Joe Nixon's basket with 42 seconds remaining. Joe Ringger scored 20 and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Tigers. Nixon followed with 16, while Howland added 13 and Jeremy Bettis had 12. Adams paced Millsaps with 20. Box score

 

Tigers fall at Oglethorpe, 70-69
Stan Goldberg hit two free throws with 3.4 seconds left to cap off an 11-2 Oglethorpe run in the game's final four minutes to defeat DePauw, 70-69. The Tigers were unable to get off a jumper before time expired. Joe Nixon and Joe Ringger finished with 22 apiece. Ringger grabbed nine rebounds and Nixon had eight. Goldberg finished with 26 for Oglethorpe including the final seven of the game. Oglethorpe shot 55 percent from the field including 62 percent in the first half. After shooting 57.7 percent in the first half, the Tigers cooled off to 34.5 percent in the second half. Box score

 

DePauw wins fourth straight in 87-57 victory over Hendrix
Mike Howland scored 24 and the Tigers shot 60 percent from the field in taking an 87-57 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference victory over visiting Hendrix. DePauw led by as many as 21 in the first half and by as many as 35 in the second half as they shot 68 percent over the final 20 minutes. Joe Ringger scored 13 and Joe Nixon added 10. Tigers improve to 7-2 with third straight win
DePauw led all the way in taking a 59-47 win over visiting Rhodes College in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference action. The Tigers built a 30-16 halftime advantage, but the Lynx closed to within four at 44-40 with just over six minutes to play. DePauw then went on a 10-2 run to push the margin back to 12. Joe Nixon scored 17 to lead the Tigers while Jeremy Bettis added a career-best 16 and Joe Ringger scored 10 and grabbed seven rebounds. Neal Power paced Rhodes with 21, while Michael Davis scored 11, grabbed nine rebounds and blocked six shots. Box score

 

Nixon earns conference and national player of the week honors
Junior forward Joe Nixon earned Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and Columbus MultimediaNational Player of the Week honors for his performance against Franklin. In the Tigers' 86-84 win over Franklin, Nixon totaled a career-high 33 points on 14 of 22 shooting from the field. He was three-for-five from three-point range, grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.

 

Nixon scores career-high 33 as Tigers hold on to top Franklin
DePauw improved to 6-2 on the season with an 86-84 win over Franklin in the second game of the Hinkle Classic at Butler University. The Tigers led by as many as 18 early in the second half, but Franklin battled all the way back to tie the game a 84-84 on three free throws by Matt Maple with 15 seconds left. Joe Nixon then gave the Tigers the win with a jumper with 5.5 seconds left. Franklin had one more shot, but Jake Sappenfield's shot at the buzzer was off the mark. Nixon led all scorers with a career-high 33. Four other Tigers were in double figures as Mike Howland scored 13, Jeremy Bettis added 12 and Joe Ringger and Bob Steiner each scored 10. Sappenfield led the Grizzlies with 18, while Jed Zarse and Maple each scored 17. DePauw shot a season-high 55.9 percent and Franklin shot 60.8 percent. Box score

 

DePauw to face Franklin in Hinkle Classic
The Tigers travel to Butler University's Hinkle Fieldhouse to face the Franklin College Grizzlies in the second game of an Indiana Division III doubleheader. DePauw and Franklin tip off at 8:30 p.m. in the second game of the Hinkle Classic which also features Earlham and Rose-Hulman in the 6:30 p.m. contest. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased through the athletic department or at the door.

 

Tigers top Earlham, 77-61; Nixon scores career-high 32
Joe Nixon scored a career-high 32 points to lead the Tigers to a 77-61 win at Earlham. The Tigers went on a 12-2 run over a two-minute stretch of the second half to expand their lead from six to 16 points. Nixon also paced the Tigers with nine rebounds. Joe Ringger added 10 points in the win which lifted the Tigers' record to 5-2. Box score

 

DePauw falls at Centre, 56-49
The Tigers battled back from as much as a 10-point deficit in the first half, but lost at Centre, 56-49. In a game that included four ties and 12 lead changes, the Tigers committed 18 turnovers including 10 in the second half, and shot just 31 percent in the second half. A 15-6 run over an eight-minute stretch of the first half brought the Tigers back to a tie and they held a 29-27 halftime lead. DePauw trailed 52-49 with 44 seconds left, but missed the front end of a one-and-one and Centre went on to score the game's final four points from the line. Tigers move to 4-1 with 80-67 win at Sewanee
Joe Ringger led the Tigers with 17 points followed by Jeremy Bettis with 13 and Mike Howland and Joe Nixon with 12 apiece in the Tigers' 80-67 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win at Sewanee. Box score

 

DePauw moves to 3-1 with 15-point win over Wabash
A late 12-2 run broke open a close game and gave DePauw a 78-63 win over visiting Wabash College. The Tigers, 3-1, led 61-57 with four minutes to play and scored the next six as Joe Ringger made a free throw and a layup and Joe Nixon buried a three to make it 67-57 with 3:03 left. The knockout punch was delivered when Nixon hit a three with 1:26 left. Todd Humerickhouse was fouled on the play and hit one of two free throws. The Tigers picked up the rebound on the miss and Ringger completed what turned out to be a six-point play. Ringger finished with 21 and a career-high 16 rebounds. Tigers rally to top Manchester 68-67
Mike Howland's three-pointer with 6.1 seconds left tied the game at 67-67 and Joe Nixon's free throw with 5.1 seconds remaining gave the Tigers a 68-67 win at Manchester. The comeback wiped out a double-digit deficit in the second half. Joe Ringger led the Tigers with 20 followed by Jeremy Bettis with 14 and Nixon with 13. Game Story | Box score

 

DePauw falls by three in Midway Classic title game to eighth-ranked Chicago
The Tigers trailed by 13 at halftime, but battled back in the second half before losing to host University of Chicago, 84-81, in the Midway Classic championship game. A 16-3 run in the second half put the Tigers ahead by one, but the Maroons built the lead back up to as many as 10 in the closing minute. Mike Howland led the Tigers with 25 points and six assists, while Joe Ringger added 15 points and Bob Steiner 11. Derek Reich paced Chicago with 26 points and 10 boards. Box score

 

Tigers top Bowdoin in season opener; face host Chicago in Midway Classic championship tilt
Four Tigers scored in double figures led by Joe Ringger with 22 and Joe Nixon with 21 as DePauw topped Bowdoin 80-65 in the Midway Classic at the University of Chicago. Bob Steiner added 19 off the bench and Jeremy Bettis chipped in 10. Ringger and Bettis each grabbed nine rebounds in the win. The Tigers take on the University of Chicago in Sunday's title game. The Maroons were 76-47 winners over Colorado College. Box score

Tigers picked to win SCAC title
In a preseason vote of the 10 coaches in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, DePauw was picked to win the league title in 2000-01. The Tigers totaled 96 points and eight first-place votes to runner-up Trinity's 90 points and two first-place votes. Trinity won the league title last year with a 16-2 conference record, while DePauw was among three schools tied at 11-7.
