Tigers hold on for 70-68 win at Luther

Decorah, Iowa. - The Tigers never trailed in their non-conference game at Luther College, but the host Norse had a chance to win the game at the buzzer. Amanda Smith's three-point attempt fell off the rim and DePauw came away with a 70-68 victory.

DePauw improved to 6-2 on the season with its fifth straight victory, while Luther fell to 4-4.

The Tigers led by as many as eight points in the first half on two occasions before going to the break with a 37-34 advantage. Luther cut that margin to one at the beginning of the second half before DePauw scored the next eight points on a basket by Katie Imborek and back-to-back three-pointers from Kim Weigle.

That lead increased to 12 points at 53-41 before the Norse went on an 11-2 run to close the gap to 55-52. The Tigers led 67-62 after Amy Argetsinger's bucket with 1:42 left. Smith cut the margin to 67-64 with a bucket at the 1:28 mark and then hit two free throws with 22.3 seconds left to make it 67-66.

Sarah MacKay's two free throws with 21.6 seconds left pushed the DePauw lead back to three before Lynn Dalhed scored on a layup with 13.1 seconds remaining to make it 69-68. Imborek hit one of two free throws with 7.1 seconds left to set up the miss at the buzzer.

Amy Argetsinger and Tria Yoder led the Tigers with career-high equaling totals of 16 and 10 points respectively. Argetsinger grabbed nine rebounds in the win. Dalhed paced Luther with 19 points and Smith had 18.

DePauw shot a season-high 53.8 percent from the floor and held the Norse to just 40 percent shooting.

The Tigers return to action on Friday, December 17, when they travel to Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
