Tigers close season at 15-10 with 88-74 win over Millsaps

Joe Nixon scored 22 and Joe Faires recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 boards as the Tigers won for the sixth time in the final seven games, 88-74 over visiting Millsaps. Mike Howland added 13 points and six assists in the victory. Game Statistics

Tigers win for fifth time in last six games

Joe Nixon scored 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead the Tigers to a 77-63 SCAC win over visiting Oglethorpe. Bob Steiner added 16, Dave Gifford 11 and Sean Lewis 10 in the victory. Peter George led Oglethorpe with 14 points. The Tigers outrebounded the Stormy Petrels 38-25 in the game. Game Statistics

Tigers top Engineers in thriller, 72-69

Despite a career-high 44 points from Rose-Hulman's Bryan Egli, the DePauw Tigers knocked off the first-place Engineers 72-69 at the Neal Fieldhouse. Mike Howland put the Tigers ahead 70-69 with a pair of free throws with 10 seconds left and Rose-Hulman's Joe Puthoff missed a driving layup with four seconds remaining. Bob Steiner's two free throws with one second left made it a three-point game and Egli's 30-footer was off the mark at the buzzer. Egli hit 17 of 29 from the field in the loss. Howland led the Tigers with 22 points, six assists and six rebounds. The Tigers committed just five turnovers to the Engineers' eight. Tigers beat Southwestern, 62-58

Tigers lose heartbreaker at Trinity, 74-70 in overtime

Mike Howland's layup with with 41.8 seconds left in regulation gave the Tigers their first lead of the game at 58-57 and Joe Nixon's two free throws with 7.1 seconds remaining gave the Old Gold a three-point lead. However, Trinity's Ryan Hyslop just beat the buzzer with a three-pointer to send the contest into overtime. Trinity hit all 12 free throws in the extra session and gained the four-point win. Tigers sweep weekend action with 79-61 win over Hendrix

Joe Faires scored a career-high 29 points and helped rally the Tigers from a six-point halftime deficit to a 79-61 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over visiting Hendrix. A 25-6 run over a six- minute stretch early in the second half took the Old Gold from an eight-point deficit to an 11-point lead. Faires scored 11 during that stretch and 15 of the points came on three- pointers. DePauw hit seven of nine from three-point range in the second half. Mike Howland added 12 and Joe Nixon 11 and Sean Lewis grabbed 12 rebounds in his second game back from an injury. Game Statistics

Tigers snap three-game losing streak and Rhodes' six-game win streak with 82-66 win

Freshman Joe Nixon scored a career-high 24 points including 15 in the second half to spark DePauw's 82-66 win over visiting Rhodes. The Tigers trailed by two late in the first half, but closed the first 20 minutes with an 11-2 run to lead by seven at halftime. A 9-1 run midway through the first half vaulted DePauw to a 17-point advantage. Joe Faires added 18 and Mike Howland 15 as the Tigers scored more points against the Lynx than any team this season. Rhodes came into the contest ranked ninth in Division III by allowing opponents to shoot just 37.5 percent from the field. DePauw hit 46.2 percent for the game and 52 percent for the game. Tigers lose third straight in yet another close battle

For the third straight game the Tigers fell behind early and had to play catch-up and for the third straight time the Tigers lost by six or fewer points as they fell at Centre, 55-50. Joe Nixon equaled a career high with 14 points, but the Old Gold committed 17 turnovers and Centre totaled 13 offensive rebounds. Game Statistics

Tigers fall at Sewanee, 67-61

The Tigers fell behind by as many as 16 in the first half at SCAC foe Sewanee, but battled back to take the lead briefly in the second half. The hosts, however, used a 9-0 run at that point to take the lead for good. The Old Gold closed to within two late, but Sewanee hit 8 of 10 from the free throw line in the final minute. The Tigers trailed by 13 points in the second half before rallying to within two in the final minute before losing 56-50. Joe Nixon scored a career-high 14 points, while Mike Howland added 11. Game Statistics

Tigers even SCAC mark with 82-69 win over Southwestern

DePauw used a 9-0 run early in the second half and a 19-5 spurt later to put away visiting Southwestern, 82-69. The Tigers trailed just twice, briefly in the first half, and led 41-31 at halftime. After the Pirates cut the margin to nine, DePauw scored nine straight to take an 18-point advantage. The visitors closed back to within nine later at 57-48, but DePauw scored 19 of the next 24 points to take their biggest lead of the game at 76-53. Mike Howland finished with 18 points and three steals, while Bob Steiner added 12 and Alex Parker 11. Joe Nixon grabbed nine rebounds. The Tigers outrebounded Southwestern 35-23. DePauw falls to Trinity in close contest

Visiting Trinity trailed DePauw 49-48 with two mintues to play, but Mike Cleary's three-pointer and two free throws in the next 30 seconds put them ahead for good in the 56-53 win. Joe Faires led the Tigers with 14 points followed by Brad Stevens with 12 and Mike Howland 10. Cleary led Trinity with 10 points. Game Statistics

Tigers hold on for 69-65 win at Hendrix

The Tigers were hot from the free throw line and needed to be as they defeated Hendrix College 69-65. DePauw hit 23 of 25 from the charity stripe and were led by Mike Howland's 17 points. The Tigers improved to 8-5 overall and 3-3 in the SCAC. Game statistics

Tigers fall behind early; can't catch host Lunx

After an early lead, the Tigers fell behind by 14 at halftime on the way to a 76-59 loss at Rhodes. The loss dropped the Tigers to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. Rhodes scored the first six points of the second half and never got closer than 13. Dave Gifford and Mike Howland each scored 16 in the loss. The defeat snapped the Tigers' five-game win streak. Tigers hang on again for one-point SCAC win

It didn't come easy, but the Tigers held on for a one-point win over visiting Centre in SCAC action for their fifth straight win. The Tigers took a 66-65 victory after leading by as many as 18 in the second half. Bob Steiner led DePauw with 19 points.

Tigers hang on for 69-63 SCAC win over Sewanee

DePauw led by 11 with eight minutes to play before visiting Sewanee put together a 15-2 run to take a two-point lead (61-59) with 3:45 remaining. The host Tigers, however, scored the game's final six points in the closing minute of play and broke a 63-63 tie. Joe Faires led all with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Bob Steiner had 15 off the bench with Mike Howland adding 12 and Joe Nixon 10. DePauw shot 54.5 percent in the second half to Sewanee's 34.3 percent. DePauw hosts Centre at 8 p.m. on Monday. The tipoff time is a change from the original schedule due to the weather.

Tigers go to break with 5-4 record after 120-39 thrashing of IU-Northwest

After leading 58-25 at halftime, the Tigers opened the second half with a 42-2 run on the way to a 120-39 win over visiting IU-Northwest. Jon Fancher led five double-figure scorers with 19 on nine-of-11 shooting from the floor. Joe Faires had 16 and a game-high eight rebounds. DePauw shot 70.6 percent from the floor and were three points short of breaking the school record for points in a game. Game Statistics

Tigers even record at 4-4 with 74-57 road win

Joe Faires scored 18 and Mike Howland, Brad Stevens and Dave Gifford each added 10 as the Tigers defeated Concordia University 74-57. The Tigers jumped out to a 41-30 halftime lead and shot 54 percent in the second half in building to the advantage. Lorenzo Trudo led Concordia with 12. DePauw held a 42-31 advantage on the boards with Faires and Gifford each grabbing seven. Game Statistics

Tigers start slow, finish strong in 82-66 home win

Visiting Indiana Wesleyan jumped out to an 8-0 lead and still led 21-16 midway through the first half before the Tigers scored 17 straight points to take a 12-point lead on the way to an 82-66 win. Brad Stevens led all scorers with 18 points followed by Mike Howland with 12 and Joe Faires with 10. Faires added 10 rebounds, five assists and three steals. Caleb Dimmich led the Wildcats with 15 points. The Tigers committed just eight turnovers in the contest and held a 36-30 advantage on the boards including 16 offensive rebounds. Game Statistics

Tigers fall at Millsaps 68-66

The Tigers were unable to convert two field goal tries in the final four seconds and lost at Millsaps 68-66 in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game. DePauw led by as many as nine points before the Majors went on a 13-3 run to take the lead with 7:56 left. Sean Lewis tied the game with 48 seconds remaining, but Millsaps' Willie Hobson hit the game-winning shot with 21 seconds left. The Tigers hit 53 percent of their field goal tries in the first half, but made only one of 11 in the final four minutes. DePauw outrebounded the Majors 37-24, but turned the ball over 24 times. Corey Yost led the Tigers with 16 points and eight rebounds. Joe Faires added 13 points, followed by Mike Howland with 12 and Lewis with 11. Second-half run puts Tigers away in SCAC opener, 90-78

Host Oglethorpe went on a 12-2 run in the second half to push their lead to 18 points on the way to a 90-78 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference win over the Tigers. Mike Howland led four DePauw double-figure scorers with 19 points. Brad Stevens and Sean Lewis scored 13 each. Joe Faires had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Early second-half run by Little Giants puts Tigers away, 87-81

DePauw and Wabash battled through a tight first half, but the visiting Little Giants used a 16-2 run during a five-minute stretch early in the second half to put the Tigers away. Wabash junior guard Josh Estelle scored nine straight during the run and finished with a game-high 32. The Tigers rallied late with seven straight points in a one-minute span, but could get no closer than six. Sophomore forward Joe Faires led the Tigers with a career-high 26 points. Statistics

Four double-figure scorers lead DePauw to eight-point win

Dave Gifford scored 17, while Mike Howland added 16 and Sean Lewis 15 as the tigers came from behind and then held on for an 83-75 win at Webster. Bob Steiner added 11 in the contest. Lewis led all with 14 rebounds. The Tigers trailed early by 10 but scored 14 straight in one stretch and eventually led by as many as 17 in the second half. The Gorloks closed to within five in the final minute, but Howland buried seven of eight free throws in the final 53.4 seconds. The Tigers improved to 2-1 with the win. Statistics

Tigers roll over Yeomen in Capital Classic consolation game

Five Tigers scored in double figures and the Old Gold shot 54 percent from the field in a 94-45 win over Oberlin in the consolation game of the Capital University Classic in Columbus, Ohio. Jon Fancher led the tigers with 14 followed by Bob Steiner with 13 and Darron Dancler with 12. Alex Parker and Josh Burch each scored 10 in the win. The Tigers held Oberlin to just 29 percent shooting from the floor. Game Statistics

Tigers fall to Defiance in season opener, 95-80

Rookie point guard Mike Howland scored 23 points, but it wasn't enough as the Tigers fell to Defiance in the opening game of the Capital Classic in Columbus, Ohio, by a 95-80 count. Game Statistics
