GREENCASTLE, IND. - Susan Bender and Kelly Morrison led the Tigers to their 20th victory against non-conference foe Mount St. Joseph's Saturday afternoon. The Tigers' 70-50 win was their ninth straight and 16th victory in the last 17 games.
The 20 victories equaled the school record win total set in 1989-90. DePauw is 20-3 on the season, while the Lions are 10-11.
Bender (So., Indianapolis/Roncalli) scored 10 in the first half on her way to 15 on the contest. Morrison (So., Warren, Ind./Huntington North) came off the bench to score 14 of her game-leading 18 points.
DePauw led by 10 at the half (28-18) even though they didn't shoot well and turned the ball over 12 times. They made up for it with a tenacious defense that forced the Lions into 19 turnovers.
The Tigers came out like tigers in the second half and methodically put away a good Mount St. Joseph's team. With exactly 11 minutes remaining, DePauw moved to a 20-point lead at 48-28. That 20 points held up even when Coach Kris Huffman cleared the bench.
In fact, the Lions' Jill Kitson had to bank a three-pointer in at the buzzer to get the Neal Fieldhouse visitors back to 20 points.
Frosh Ann Hall (Bourbon, Ind./Triton) started and scored nine points. Mary Hand (Fr., Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) sored seven.
Leading scorers for the Lions were Robin Theising with 15 and Lisa Richter with 10.
DePauw's final regular-season game is at home against Manchester on Tuesday (Feb. 18). With a win, the Tigers can grab a share of the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference title and the right to host the conference tournament that begins on Feb. 27
