Matt Nelson

A 1992 DePauw graduate, Nelson started his DePauw coaching stintduring the 2012 season.

Nelson earned four letters as a linebacker for the Tigers andwas a two-time College Division Academic All-America selectionincluding a second team choice in 1990 and first team in 1991. Healso earned Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Academichonors as a senior.

A member of DePauw's 1990 ICAC championship team which won allseven conference games, Nelson was a first team all-conferenceselection in 1990 and 1991. During the 1990 season he earnedDePauw's Raymond "Gaumey" Neal Defensive Player of the Year Awardand, in 1991, he was the team's co-defensive player of the year.Nelson also served a tri-captain his senior season.

As a junior he led the Tigers with 105 total tackles including70 solos and, during his junior season he shared the team lead withfour interceptions. In tackle statistics dating back to 1985,Nelson is one of just six to top the century mark in a season. His263 career tackles rank fourth in DePauw history and his 150 solosare second.

A Phi Beta Kappa inductee, Nelson graduated magna cum laude andwas a member of the Management Fellows Program. He later earned aMaster of Business Administration degree from StanfordUniversity.
