Jim LaFave enters his first season as the assistant women’s swimming and diving coach for the Tigers.
LaFave recently earned his Bachelors of Science degree in exercise science this past April from Grand Valley State University in Grand Rapids, Mich., where he was also a member of the men’s swimming and diving team. In his time there LaFave was also the assistant swim coach for Seahold High School (MI) and for the Forest Hills Swim Club (MI).
At Grand Valley State, his top times were 52.43 in the 100 backstroke, 1:53.49 in the 200 back and 51.46 in the 100 butterfly. At the 2013 GLIAC Championships, he finished 13th in the 100 fly, 12th in the 100 back and 13th in the 200 back.
LaFave was also a swimming instructor at Grand Valley State University, coordinating activities for children ages 4-8. He also spent time as a strength and conditioning intern at the University of Detroit Mercy (MI).
LaFave, a native of Troy, Mich., is lifeguard certified, CPR/AED certified and has concussion training.
