Vince Lazar started at DePauw in August of 1998.
At DePauw
- Led the men's team to the Division III Championships in 1999 and 2005 and was one of only four coaches NCAA history at the time to take both programs to the Division III Championships in the same season when he did so in 2005.
- Three-time National Golf Coaches Association’s Women's Division III Coach of the Year (2002, 2004, 2011)
- Eight-time regional coach of the year selection. (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010, 2011, 2019)
- Has led the women's team to 15 NCAA Division III Championship appearances including 13 straight from 2002 through 2014.
- In all, Lazar's women's teams have totaled 10 top-five national finishes.
- Has coached three individuals (one male, two female) in the national championships.
- During his tenure between the men's and women's programs, 14 student-athletes have earned a total of 31 all-America honors and they've accumulated over 34 All-American Scholar accolades.
- Lazar's teams have captured 12 women's conference titles including 7 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and five as members of the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the men won one in the SCAC
- Lazar has totaled 12 conference coach of the year honors and his student-athletes have been named conference golfer of the year on 11 occasions.
- Previously served as an instructor in DePauw’s kinesiology department. In addition he served on the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship Committee and the NCAA Men’s Regional Golf Committee. Also was the Division III Director on the National Golf Coaches Association Board of Directors.
Prior to DePauw
- A native of Crown Point, Indiana, Lazar was the 1980 Indiana Junior PGA Champion and 1981 Indiana Junior Long Drive Champion. He was a four-year letterman at the University of New Orleans (Division I). While completing his bachelor’s degree in physical education, he served as the assistant golf coach and assistant academic advisor.
- Two years later he completed his master’s degree in clinical exercise physiology at Indiana University. He completed his doctoral course work in 1998 at Indiana University in the area of Motor Learning with a minor in Sport Psychology.
- Lazar is a PGA professional and has worked at Lakes of the Four Seasons in Crown Point, Indiana; Martinsville Country Club in Martinsville, Indiana; and the Indiana University Golf Club in Bloomington, Indiana.
- Before being named head coach at DePauw, Lazar served as an assistant golf professional for seven years and assistant golf coach for two years for hall of fame men’s and women’s golf coach Sam Carmichael at Indiana University. During his time at Indiana, both teams qualified for the Division I NCAA Championships.
Personal
- Resides in Greencastle, with his wife Lisa and children Evan, Maura and Harper.
