Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw women's soccer fought Capital at home on Saturday afternoon, falling short of a comeback 1-2.
Capital dominated offensively in the first half, scoring two goals to lengthen their lead to 2-0 at halftime.
Tigers' junior Katherine Lacy and freshman Maddie Grimm tallied one shot each, but the Comets edged them with eight shots across six players. Capital held possession for 52% of the first half, with 38% in their attacking quadrant.
Freshman goalkeeper Marley Ball played in goal for the Tigers in the first half, recording two saves in goal.
Heading into the second half, DePauw trailed 2-0 and senior goalkeeper Aubree Empie came in for Ball.
The Tigers made their way onto the scoreboard at 56:16 when Sara Jacobi was tripped up and fouled in the penalty box, drawing a penalty kick for DePauw. Freshman middle Joie Carpenter took the shot, netting a goal past the Comet's goalie in the bottom right corner of the net. This was Carpenter's first career goal.
The Comets edged the Tigers with 16 shots compared to seven.
DePauw held Capital to a score of 1-2 for the remaining 34 minutes, highlighted by one shot on goal from the Tigers delivered by Molly Heller at 68:03 and one by Mia Scuglik at 88:49. Empie make three saves in goal for the Tigers during the second half.
With the loss, DePauw moves to 3-2 overall, while Capital improves to 3-1. The Tigers will return to action on Tuesday at Franklin, for an away non-conference match up at 7:00 p.m.
