St. Louis, Mo. - DePauw scored 27 second-half points, but it wasn't enough to overcome the 31-point lead WashU built as the Bears held on for a 37-27 win.

DePauw, ranked 13th in the latest coaches' poll and 15th by D3football.com, dropped to 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the North Coast Athletic Conference, while the Bears moved to 2-0 overall and 1-0 in the NCAC. This marks the first year that WashU is competing as an affiliate member of the North Coast Athletic Conference in football. The loss snapped DePauw's 13-game road winning streak which was the second-longes active Division III streak and the third-longest among all NCAA divisions.

Two DePauw turnovers in the opening six minutes proved costly. The Tigers drove into WashU territory on their opening drive before Scott Ballentine was intercepted by Kellen Fraile who returned it 64 yards for a score with 10:58 left in the opening frame. A fumble on the Tigers' second series led to Levi Moore's 25-yard scoring pass to Makael Carter at the 7:46 mark of the opening stanza.

The Bears' defense recorded a three-and-out and the offense took over on its own 43 and drove to the Tigers' 8 with Matias Adrogue booting a 25-yard field goal to make it 17-0 with 3:20 remaining in the opening period.

After forcing another DePauw punt, the Bears drove 48 yards in 11 plays with Moore scoring on a 1-yard run with 11:38 left in the half. WashU extended the advantage to 31-0 on the opening possession of the second half as Moore scampered 61 yards on the sixth play of the drive.

DePauw rallied with a pair of quick scores as Jack Kazmierczak tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass to Evan Pitzer and a 23-yarder to Luke Dockery to trim the deficit to 31-13 with 5:26 left in the third. 

The Bears answered with a 45-yard field goal from Adrogue late in the quarter.

Carson Johnson's 2-yard run with 13:54 remaining in the fourth and Kazmierczak's two-point conversion pass to Dockery cut the Bears' lead to 34-21.

After a defensive stand, the Tigers drove inside the Bears' 10-yard line, but Brett Kersemeier's interception stopped the threat. 

Adrogue pushed the lead to 37-21 with a 42-yard field goal before DePauw's final score came on a 35-yard pass from Kazmierczak to Carter Foran with 21 seconds remaining.

Kazmierczak came off the bench to complete 14-of-22 passes for 247 yards and three touchdowns, while Ballentine completed 8-of-15 for 77 yards in the opening half. Johnson rushed for 79 yards on 20 carries, while Dockery caught six passes for 113 yards.

Moore completed 16-of-26 passes for 160 yards and rushed for 96 yards on 10 carries. Carter led the way with four catches for 52 yards.

Robert Pasinato led DePauw's defense with 10 tackles including two for losses. Joey Fico and Zach Reese each totaled seven stops. Spencer Snipe paced the Bears with eight stops.

DePauw outgained WashU, 410-373, including 324-160 in the air. The Tigers also held a 21-19 edge in first downs.

The Tigers open the home portion of their schedule with a 1 p.m. NCAC contest against Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday, Sept. 19.
