Greencastle, Ind. - DePauw wrapped up North Coast Athletic Conference regular season play with a senior day doubleheader sweep of Kenyon by scores of 8-0 and 9-7. The Tigers improved to 24-14 overall and finished 11-3 in NCAC play, while the Owls dropped to 19-21 overall and 7-7 in the NCAC.
In the opener, DePauw scored five in the second as
Alex Romero-Salas led off with a walk and moved to second on
Paige Brady's single.
Hanna Coffel was hit by a pitch before pinch-hitter
Kendall Hynes reached on an error that allowed Romero-Salas and Brady to score.
Emily DuMais' grounder scored Coffel before
Libby Minobe doubled home Ohrvall who re-entered. Minobe then scored on a passed ball.
Ella Kuenster's solo homer in the third made it 6-0 and the Tigers added one in the fourth as DuMais drove in Coffel after reaching on an error. The Tigers ended the game in the fifth with the run rule as
Kelsey Schneider led off with a walk, stole second and moved to third on a throwing error on the play. Schneider scored when she beat a throw to the plate off of
Eliza Rammel's fielder's choice grounder.
Four differnt Tigers collected one hit each, while two Owls had one apiece.
Romero-Salas improved to 12-8 after allowing just two hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Kylie Hamm dropped to 9-7.
In the nightcap, Keala Montgomery led off the game with a homer, but DePauw countered with two in the bottom of the frame. Minobe, Schneider and Rammel each singled to load the bases. Romero-Salas reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Minobe to score. Brady drove in Schneider with a single to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead.
Montgomery reached on an error in the second and stole second before scoring on Leah Schlissberg's single.
Rammel led off the third with a homer before Kuenster and Romero-Salas reached on bunt singles. Brady reached on an error of her sacrifice bunt with Kuenster scoring.
Avery Welsh delivered an RBI single and scored on
Mia Speidel's base hit to extend DePauw's lead to 6-2.
Montgomery singled with one out in the fourth and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Maeve McLaughlin drove in Montgomery with a single to close the DePauw lead to 6-3.
Coffel led off the DePauw fifth with a single and stole second. She moved to third on Speidel's bunt single. Pinch-runner
Angelese Cruz attempted to steal second with Coffel beating the throw to the plate to push the Tigers' lead to 7-3.
In the sixth, Montgomery clubbed her second homer of the game to cut the deficit to 7-4.
The Tigers scored a pair in the bottom of the inning. Rammel led off with a double and moved to third when Kuenster reached on an error of her sacrifice bunt.. Kuenster stole second before Romero-Salas drove in Rammel with a single. An error on the play allowed Kunester to score and make it 9-4.
Leah Kuban and Brooke Avila each singled in the seventh before pinch-hitter Anna Engler drove in one with a single. Emma Cashell later drove in a pair with a single, but a pop up ended the game.
Rammel had four of DePauw's 16 hits with Speidel adding three. Minobe and Romero-Salas finished with two hits apiece.
Montgomery and Avila each had three of Kenyon's 14 hits with Kuban adding two.
Izzy Deveau improved to 10-5, while Izzy Akin dropped to 3-6.
DePauw returns to action on Thursday, May 7, at the NCAC Tournament. Pairings will be release on Sunday.
