Seven-Run Second Propels DePauw to NCAA Regional Championship Round

Adrian, Mich. - DePauw scored seven runs in the second and four in the seventh and advanced to the NCAA Division III regional championship round with an 11-2 win over Webster. The third-seed Tigers improved to 30-13, while the fourth-seed Gorloks dropped to 31-15. Tomorrow at 11 a.m., DePauw faces Adrian after the Bulldogs' 2-1 walk-off win over Webster. The Tigers need just one win to advance to next week's super regional round.

The DePauw second included a Bryson Dorsey single before Aidan Howard drew a two-out walk. Max Bond then hit a grounder to Webster third baseman Reid Hietpas who fielded the ball and tried to beat Dorsey to the bag for the inning-ending force. Dorsey jumped to reach the base, but landed past the bag and broke for the plate and scored the game's first run.

That seemed to open the floodgates as Grady Johnson singled home Howard before Zach O'Connell singled to load the bases. Louis Florida's single scored a pair and Cuinn Morrow followed with an RBI double. Nolan Osterling's two-bagger plated a pair to make it 7-0.

Webster reached the board in the fourth with Nick Wrubluski leading off with a single and moving to second on Hietpas' walk. Ryan Hartz singled to load the bases with Ethan Wielt hitting into a double play that permitted Wrubluski to score.

The Gorloks cut the deficit to 7-2 in the fifth as Hietpas hit a solo homer to left center.

DePauw tacked on four more in the seventh with Morrow and Osterling starting the inning by reaching on walks. Dorsey singled home Morrow and Walkey drove in Osterling with a single. Howard's double plated Dorsey and Bond's ground out scored Walkey to make it 11-2.

Florida had four of DePauw's 14 hits with O'Connell and Dorsey each adding two. Johnson's second-inning single was his 73rd hit of the season which tied the program record held by Javair Gillett in 2001.

Hietpas had three of Webster's 11 hits with Adam Moser adding two.

Peare Riendeau improved to 7-2 after allowing just two runs over six innings. Jaylen Windmiller collected his third save with three innings of scoreless relief. Carter Hunt dropped to 8-3.
